vor einem Jahr hab ich ein Microblog auf Instagram gestartet und dort inzwischen schon über siebzig sehr vermischte Beiträge angesammelt. Weil ich mir parallel dazu immer noch eine zuckerfreie Alternative gewünscht habe, habe ich meine lange verwaiste Internetseite wieder mit einer frischen Dokuwiki-Installation flott gemacht. Hier werde ich nun also alle Beiträge spiegeln – eventuell jeweils mit etwas Verzögerung.
Auch meine Auswahl an Formelsammlungen, die ich noch aus den Tagen von Berufsoberschule und Studium herumtrage, habe ich wieder online gestellt – denn sie hatten sich doch einiger Beliebtheit erfreut. Weiterhin gibt's eine kleine Vorstellung meiner anderen, noch existenten Netzprojekte. Über's Glas habe ich auch etwas verfasst. Mehr Inhalte werden sich mit der Zeit sicher ergeben 🤓

Rotating IS Machine 🇬🇧

I've seen these IS machines with multiple blow moulds mounted on a carousel, which are made by the Chinese company Chuda, now in quite a few videos. And I always asked myself: what's the benefit of such a complicated and unconventional design?!
During my recent trip to China, my colleague Tony had the explanation: the multiple-mould arrangement leads to a longer re-heat time, resulting in much higher surface quality 🤓 This then also explains the take-out and transfer arrangement as well as the deltabot lehr loader: the outside of the bottle is never touched and thus stays pristine.
According to Tony, during the last few years these Chuda machines have become quite well-spread among high-quality container manufacturers all across China. We visited three different spirit bottle manufacturers – all of them had at least one line running. The machine takes up more space and is slower than a standard IS machine – but the benefits seem to be striking. On the web one can find photos of machines with up to ten stations … double-gob is also available!
And as an interested bystander I now wonder: what do the big players like Emhart, Heye or Bottero and BDF think about all of that?

🎵 Bee Gees - To Love Somebody
Eigentlich ja doch Puritaner …
… und da sitzt du nun, ganz hinten in der Business … und schaust auf die anderen Leute, die sich irgendwelche Blockbuster reinziehen, schlafen, arbeiten oder Schach spielen. Im Kopfhörer dudeln die Bee Gees 🎵 You don't know what it's like / To love somebody / The way I love you 🎵 Die Lichter sind schon gedimmt, gleich wirst du noch etwas an der nächsten Betriebsanleitung herumschreiben.
Leicht angeschickert von der Bloody Mary und zwei Gläschen fruchtigem australischen Shiraz, den Bauch voll mit hervorragender Poularde, leckeren Ravioli und einer Auswahl Käse. Zweieinhalb Stunden hinter Frankfurt, gut neun Stunden vor Shanghai, irgendwo über dem Schwarzen Meer. Nicht weit von dir tobt der Krieg … und du hockst da oben, in einer pfeilschnellen Blechbüchse … rund und satt, auf einem geräumigen Platz. Irgendwie völlig surreal … und ziemlich dekadent.
Die Reise ist, natürlich, für die Arbeit. Der Platz zum Ausstrecken und Schlafen ist dir wichtig. Zum Essen eine geräucherte Bratwurst, eine doppelte Semmel und a Seidla Bier wären dir mehr als genug … aber die Annehmlichkeiten nimmst du eben mit, auch wenn dir der Aufwand jedes mal auf's Neue suspekt ist. Wichtiger: du weißt den Komfort zu schätzen. Es ist ein absolutes Privileg.
Der prototypische Langstrecken-Steward ist happy, weil du die Vorspeise lobst, den Ravioliteller ratzeputz leerfegst und auch sonst nicht meckerst. Wenn das die Messlatte ist … die anderen sind halt doch alle Snobs 😅

In September I told you how and why I started 3D printing and my reasons for buying a cheap machine 2½ years ago. Despite the many upgrades I had installed to my vanilla Ender 3, I thought about getting a new printer for some time. When I saw the release video of the Prusa Mk4, I came to the conclusion: this is it! The load cell for bed leveling is just genius … and the prospect of getting „off the shelf“ input shaping for fast and high quality prints was also great. So I put in an order for a kit one week later … and received a late birthday present by the mid of August, waiting just for four months 😅
Assembling the kit was not a difficult task, but it took me four workshop afternoons. With the detailed instructions and included gummy bears it was great fun. However, there was one small printed part for the extruder missing – for that, I received one surplus item of another part. Printing the missing piece on the Ender 3 in black PETG was easier than trying out the praised Prusa support.
The first prints came of fantastic with no special adjustments required. Instead of the 0.4 mm Nextruder nozzle, I installed a V6 adapter and Chinesium 0.6 mm high-flow nozzle (CHT clone) straight away, which has also been working fine. The firmware upgrade with input shaping came out not long after I received the printer … and boy, is it fast! 🤓
So … I got, what I've asked for: a tool that does not require constant attention and just works without headache. But sometimes, I have to admit, I miss the tinkering … 😁
